Full Day Activities

Visit The Plantations at Cornell University. The campus of Cornell University is located on high bluff overlooking the city of Ithaca and Cayuga Lake.  A prominent feature of this Ivy League campus is the Plantations that include two major gorges and thousands of acres of natural habitats.  An experienced guide from the university will take us through the botanical garden -- highlighting the winter, herb, decorative flower, rock and perennial gardens, as well as their rhododendron collection and extensive ground cover collection.  After the formal tour we will walk along the Fall Creek Gorge to the famous Suspension Bridge.  And time permitting you have the opportunity to explore other parts of campus including the Chimes at McGraw Tower in the center of the university. Bring: Lunch, water, hiking boots or sturdy shoes, sunscreen bug spray, camera. Cost: $11 (for guided tour)

Visit the Corning Glass Museum and the Tanglewood Nature Center. We'll start our day at the Corning Museum of Glass, where we'll see more than 35 centuries of glass artistry in the galleries, explore glass innovations in the hands-on science and technology area, and watch live glass demos on glass blowing, flameworking, and more. After lunch, we'll head over to the Tanglewood Nature Center in Elmira. We will meet a variety of animals ranging from millipedes to turtles to owls. We'll also have the option of hiking the three miles of trails at the nature center to a scenic outlook across the Chemung Valley.  Bring: Lunch, water, hiking boots or sturdy shoes, sunscreen bug spray, camera.
