Evening Activities

Evening activities will take advantage of our beautiful camp and temperate summer nights. The schedule is presently being finalized - but look for it to include activities for all tastes:

Thursday Evening - Ice Breakers

Yep ... come prepared to meet new people as we "break the ice" after dinner the first night.  We'll start your weekend off with tons of fun.

Friday Night - Shabbat and Educational program on the Finger Lakes

Shabbat services will begin the evening, then Angela Cannon, an educator with the Finger Lakes Museum, will be giving a presentation entitled, "Formation of the Finger Lakes and Watershed Protection", including what we can do to help keep these lakes clean, and what the Finger Lakes Museum is doing to help steward our natural resources. The presentation will include some information on invasive species, and protecting our valuable fresh water in general. We'll end the evening with a campfire.

Saturday Night  - Havdallah, Muckland Crooners and & More!

Have we got a cool treat in store for Saturday Night this year! The guys from the Muckland Crooners will be joining us for dinner, and leading an interactive workshop and concert.

Have you ever heard of a jug band? These guys make amazing music from homemade instruments, and they will be teaching us how to do the same!

First a little bit about the band from their website:

The Muckland Crooners are a unique three piece vocal jugband from the Finger Lakes Region of Upstate NY.  They play "feel-good" music on cigar box guitar, washtub bass, washboard and other homemade instruments.

A Muckland Crooner performance is a fast paced show with a mixture of original tunes and familiar covers all done with a twist.   It is a bit like the birth-of-Rock-n-Roll in a hobo jungle.  The instrumentation is taken all the way down to it's roots . . . but it will surprise you - as will their tight, three-part harmonies.

Then... here's what WE'RE doing on Saturday night:

The guys will give us a brief presentation on primitive homemade musical instruments, the history of the cigar box guitar and jug band music in general.  Then we'll split into three groups for "hands-on" workshop demonstrations.  After 20 minutes, we'll rotate to the next station, until everyone has seen all the instruments.

  • Station 1: How to construct and playing a cigar box guitar. We'll all have a chance to pitch in to make one, and to try our hands at playing.
  • Station 2: How to construct and playing a washboard bass. We'll all have a chance to pitch in to make one, and to try our hands at playing.
  • Station 3: How to play the washboard and jug. We'll all get to try our hands at playing.

Afterwards, a few folks will get together as a "band" to show off their new mad skills.  ;-)

At the conclusion of the workshop, the Muckland Crooners will present an performance of their"Makeshift Hobo-Rock show, approximately 2 hours in length.

Excited? I know we are!!!
